Student in the most top Technical School of Saint Petersburg takes
part in the First World War with lieutenant's degree of the reserve.
Of immediate form, he acts in the revolution of October as member
of the communist party and placing closely to Molotov. His personal
friendship with Stalin serves him to climb high places put in the
years following. This way, in 1932 he ascends to the degree of the
General of Brigade and little later to that of Division. He is already
for that time supporter of introducing elements of the party in the
Red Army controls, already purified by the 1937's purges.
Vasilievsky intervenes of very
active form in several of the most important operations of the Second
World War, especially as Zhukov's assistant in Stalingrad's site.
In March 1945, he leads the set of operations in the East Prussia
and, a little time later, commands the effective ones of the Red Army
in Asia.
In the spring of 1946 he re-assumes
chief's functions of General staff and, three years later, replaces
to Bulganin like Minister of Defence. He was a member of the Central
Committee of the communist party until the year 1962.
