VISTA PANORÁMICA DE LA GRAN GEODA DE YESO ENCONTRADA EN ALMERÍA 

         PANORAMIC VIEW OF GYPSUM CAVITY

En marzo del  año  2000,  un  grupo de amigos aficionados a  la  mineralogía,  tuvimos la oportunidad  de  visitar  la  impresionante  geoda  de  yeso  cristalizado,  que  había  sido recientemente descubierta en la localidad  Almeriense de  Pilar de Jaravia, y que por sus dimensiones (8 x 2,6 x 1,6 ) mts. la hacen una de las más espectaculares del mundo.

Su cristal mayor tiene una longitud de 2,5 mts., y los demás tienen una media de alrededor de  los  50 cm  de  largo  y  con un  peso no inferior  a  los  25 kg.  Algunos  cristales  presentan inclusiones líquidas y gaseosa visibles a simple vista.

In march of the year 2000, a group of friends fond of the mineralogy, we had the opportunity to visit the impressive cavity of crystallized gypsum that had been recently discovered in the town  Almeriense of  Pilar de Jaravia  (SPAIN), and  that  for  their  dimensions  (8x2,6x1,6) meters, they make it one of the most spectacular of the world.

Their  bigger  glass  has a  longitude  of  2,5 meters,  and  the other ones have a stocking of around the 50 cm of long and with a non inferior weight to the 25 kgs. Some glasses present liquid inclusions and visible at first sight.

In the last picture you can see the authors of the report inside of the cavity.

At the moment, thanks to the efforts carried out  by many  fonds  of  the mineralogy  and  for differents associations and publics organisms, the cavity is protected.
