of Turieno, 2 km from Potes. It has a large garden and quiet surroundings. A
small stream runs along one side of the garden. This is above
all a quiet sunny location in lush surroundings. |
The
interior is modern and spotlessly clean. There is extensive use of timber

The
medieval monastery of Santo Toribio lies across the valley. It has historical
connections with Turieno - the village where Posada Javier is located. The
monastery dates from 1256 and it contains the Lignum Crucis - a reputed
piece of Christ's cross which was brought from the Holy Land by Bishop Toribio
in the 4th century. Further up the valley lies Espinama and
Fuente De. Here, a cable car carries climbers up to the Central Massif which is
a starting point for walkers and climbers. Extensive information is available
at the Posada. Other nearby sites include the Mozarabe church
of Lebeña, the Romanesque church at Piasca, the historic Mogrovejo
complex and, of course, Potes itself - with shops, restaurants, cyber cafes and
historic buildings. |
